Apparatus

CIL has a slightly different reading although image of stone on HE indicates that the CIL reading is erroneous.

Translation

Gaius Camilius Paternus of the Galeria tribe, of Clunia, 25 years old, here he lies, may the earth rest lightly upon you. The neighbourhood association of Clunians (vicinia Cluniensium) (?) had this made.

Commentary

Vicinia has been read as both a slave name (i.e. Vicinia, slave of Clunia) and as referring to a neighbourhood association of Clunians, who set up this monument; the latter is the preferred reading (see Andreau 1997; cf. Haley 1991: 19 for the variant reading).
