Translation

Gaius Axonius, son of Quintus, of the Papiria tribe, of the XX legion, born in the colonia of Firmum Picenum made this monument while alive for himself and for his brother Quintus Axonius, son of Quintus.

Commentary

Le Roux (1982: 59-60) notes that this indicates that the XX legion was in Spain, and the lack of cognomen suggests that this is a relatively early inscription, suggesting that the legion was in Spain during the period of conquest, probably in the Augustan period rather than before Actium.
