Translation

Sacred to the Spirits of the Dead, Gaius Valerius Maxsumus of Caesaraugusta, veteran of the VII legion Gemina Felix, 55 years old, here he lies, may the earth rest lightly upon you, Valeria Maxsuma had this made for her dutiful father.

Commentary

Le Roux (1982: 208) dates the inscription to around the middle of the second century, noting that it records a veteran who retired to the region of Merida, after being recruited at Caesaraugusta in the first half of C2 or even at end of C1. Palao Vicente 2006: 175 dates it slightly later, to the second half of the second century, with recruitment under Trajan or Hadrian.
