Epitaph of Valerius Anno
Edition
Apparatus
L.1. Omitted by CIL. L.4. CIL reads Ux[am(ensi)] a[nn(orum)].
L.6. CIL reads [f(aciendum)] c(urarunt).
Translation
Sacred to the Spirits of the Dead, to Valerius Anno, son of Luguadicus, of Uxama, 25 years old, his companions (sodales) had this made.
Commentary
See Knapp 1992: 209 for the suggestion that the sodales mentioned here (and also in 8556) were part of an association of people from Uxama at Segovia, and that the reuse of all three stones recording migrants from Uxama in the same area of wall may reflect the location of the association's burial area.
