Epitaph of Publius Cosconius Arsensis
Edition
Apparatus
L.4. HEponl. reads c(enturia). Also XXXI for XXXX (although drawing of stone would suggest the latter is correct).
Translation
Publius Cosconius Arsensis, son of Publius, from the Galeria tribe, soldier in the X legion Gemina, in the century of Etrilus, 40 years old, 11 years service, here he lies.
Commentary
Le Roux (1982: 174) dates the inscription to the first half of the first century, and proposes that Ars(ensis) should be read as both cognomen and origo.
